DiskEraser Puts Security Technology in Consumer Hands
nexGrēn Introduces First Consumer Data Removal Product Approved and Used by Department of Defense
RESTON, Va. (September 8, 2009) – nexGrēn today announced the launch of DiskEraser, a green technology, data removal product specifically designed for the consumer to completely and permanently remove the entire contents of a computer’s hard drive. DiskEraser leverages the same patented technology approved and used by the Department of Defense (DoD) for removal of “Secret” level information.
DiskEraser was developed to address mounting security and environmental challenges facing the United States. In 2008, nearly 10 million Americans fell victim to identity theft. Over the last five years, identity theft imposed a cost to U.S. corporations of more than $60 billion. Additionally, consumer electronics disposal has become the fastest growing waste stream around the globe. According to an EPA study released in 2008, more than 65 million PCs and laptops are disposed of each year, with an estimated 67 million more stored in offices and homes awaiting responsible disposal.
Developed using patented and proprietary software technology, DiskEraser completely removes every file by writing random data on the entire hard drive. This leaves the drive and the system itself completely clean of any information.
“DiskEraser offers a green solution to escalating levels of identity theft and consumer electronics waste, each of which has reached epidemic proportions,” said Joseph Fergus, founder and CEO of nexGrēn. “The permanent removal of sensitive, confidential information from a computer’s hard drive protects the consumer from identity theft and gives them peace of mind to donate, recycle or otherwise dispose of the device without fear of their sensitive information falling into the wrong hands. It also enables consumers to do their part to protect the environment.”
DiskEraser was tested and approved for use in the DoD Information Assurance Program. Today, while maintaining the same stringent government requirements, DiskEraser technology has been adapted into a user-friendly, consumer-oriented product available for purchase in the marketplace.
